THE FLOW
It is expressed in liters per hour (l / h) and indicates the amount of water that the pump is able to move in an hour, water that is pushed up to the nozzle of the lance to generate pressure. Inexpensive pressure washers are often advertised, with great pressure power, but little flow. For example, a high pressure cleaner with 150 atmospheres of pressure, but with a flow rate of 10 l / h, is able to move an amount of water equivalent to a glass of water every 60 seconds! An adequate flow rate for hobby and infrequent use is around 350l / h, while for a more frequent use and to cover larger surfaces a flow rate of around 450 l / h is recommended.
THE PRESSURE
It is measured in bars and refers to the force with which the water escapes from the nozzle placed on top of the lance. Pressures suitable for hobby use can vary between 100 and 150 bar, the same values generally also for professional ones. In cases where high performance is required, it is possible to reach 500 bar of pressure.
THE POWER
Expressed in kw. A power greater than 1.3 kW is recommended for pressure washers which are deemed to be used sporadically, while a power of at least 3 kW is required in cases where the machine is used more frequently. It is like for cars: think of a car that has to travel hundreds of km every day; this must have a powerful and large displacement engine. An important precaution: when using extensions up to 25 meters, the section of the cables, excluding the rubber sheath, must be at least 2.5 mm thick; above 25 meters the thickness must be at least 4 mm.
